Autumn Fashion: Key Trends

So it seems summer has bailed on us much quicker than we planned, and autumn has arrived much sooner than expected. For those of us who love the autumns time, this is the ideal opportunity to boost your wardrobe with an injection of new styles and new colours for Autumn fashion; giving the perfect reason for some retail therapy.

Autumn/Winter is without a doubt my favourite time of year, I love layering, I love wrapping up and – after the preview collections at London Fashion Week back in February – I’m going to love the 70’s vibe our fashion will be giving off this coming season. Flared trousers, floral prints, floaty dresses and skirts, large hats and all the colours of camel a girl could wish for, donned the runways of London seven months ago, and are now slowly seeping into the stores ready for us to wear. Not to mention the bright and eye-catching 80’s style party outfits, and the nod to our childhood with nostalgic 90’s cartoon characters. This autumn/winter you will not be short of finding a style to suit you.

The best way to prepare for the seasonal change is to have a capsule wardrobe; basically, picking key features from the A/W collections and then expanding on them as the months go on. Now of course we can’t all afford the prices of the high brand designers, but fortunately for us, our British high street is second to none, and always has a way to translate runway trends into wearable and affordable fashion – stores u have as H&M, Topshop, Primark, New Look, River Island, etc.

Here I’ve provided a list of the key pieces shown at fashion week, to add to your wardrobe;
The Trenchcoat.

Possibly the most iconic piece of British style; the Trenchcoat is completely timeless and goes with practically everything you pair it with. It’s great for casual occasions, dinners, work, or even formal events, such as parties. There’s nothing more elegant than the trench coat and it brings a touch of class and style to every outfit.

Flares

As I said before, the 70’s dominated the catwalks in February and will definitely be making an impact on the high street. Teamed with a pair of ankle boots for day time wear or wedges at night, there is always a way to wear flares this season.

Metallics & Sequins

While some of us missed out on the infamous 80’s style, this season you will be able to experience if first hand, but maybe a little more stylish then the first time around. Think metallic jumpers, sparkling skirts and jumpsuits; there will be a way to brighten up any outfit, adding a little glitz to those cold and dark winter days.

Shapeless Jacket

Last year we saw the shapeless jacket thrust into department stores. On paper, the jacket shouldn’t work, it’s ill fitting, the cut isn’t exactly up to date with current trends, but paired with layering, this jacket becomes ideal A/W jacket.

The Oversized Bag

Never has a large barb been more appropriate than for the winter months, after all, this is the time of year when we need to carry an umbrella, tissues, cough sweets and probably some Vaseline. The oversized bag is your best friend when it comes to carrying all your winter essentials.

Nostalgia

Remember all those pictures of you as a child, wearing jerseys with large prints of your favourite cartoon characters? You might wanna draw inspiration from your 90’s childhood outfits as they’re about to make a comeback. Expect to be reunited with all of your favourite 90’s animations as you’re about to be wearing them this fall.

Boots

What is winter without boots? The high street caters to so many styles these days that you shouldn’t struggle to find the perfect winter boots to match your style.
