LIVE FOOTAGE: Hungarian police use tear gas and water cannon on refugees

Over the last few hours the Hungarian police have chosen to use tear gas and water cannon against refugees after asylum seekers broke down razor wire border fences at a border shared with Serbia.

Relations have turned toxic between the two sides as young men aiming to cross the border from Serbia have come against the police who are aiming to enforce the new migration law put in place by the Hungarian government.

The young refugees were seen throwing bottles at the police which has caused the riot police to enforce control via means of tear gas and water cannon.

Hungarian police have claimed that several “aggressive” people had managed to break through the border gates.

Law enforcers have released a statement, saying: “Police are taking lawful and proportionate measures to protect the Hungarian state border and the external frontier of the European Union.”

Earlier this week, on Monday, over 9,000 people were rounded up by the Hungarian police. It has been reported that police data reveals that 366 asylum seekers were arrested up by Hungarian police yesterday. Budapest then looked to close the main land route for refugees entering into the EU.

The current issues at the Hungarian Serbian border seems to be as a result of this.
