On the red carpet at the Oscars 2016
Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander and Margot Robbie top the best dressed lists at the Oscars.
28th February saw arguably the most important awards show on the calendar hit the red carpet. With The Revenant picking up 12 nominations and Max Mad: Fury Road closely behind with 10 nominations, it was bound to be a very interesting show. It was great chance to finally see Leonardo DiCaprio pick up the Oscar for ‘Best Actor’ in The Revenant after a very long wait and 6 previous nominations. The whole world can now breathe a sigh of relief to see him get that well deserved Oscar. The film picked up three Oscars whilst Mad Max: Fury Road picked up six Oscars for ‘Best Costume Design’ and ‘Best Production Design’ amongst others.
Aside from the winners, the red carpet was one of the most anticipated with attendees preparing for months before, making sure they choose the perfect outfit. There was hardly any disappointment this year and we saw plenty of stunning looks on the red carpet. There were dresses in various green and purple tones, embellishments, fringing and plunging necklines.
Saoirse Ronan, nominated for ‘Best Actress’ in Brooklyn wore a Calvin Klien floor length gown in emerald green. It fit her body perfectly and the length was great. What comes to mind is the shiny Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz with the sequins and striking colour. Apparently, she was wearing green to represent her Irish roots. Perfect choice.
Mindy Kaling looked regal in an Elizabeth Kennedy dress with Prada purse. It suited her body shape perfectly with the off the shoulder capped sleeves and fitted shape. The large blue train was a nice touch to the dress that made it stand out for all the right reasons. Despite being a safe choice, Kaling was one of the best dressed of the night.
Alicia Vikander, who scooped up the award for best supporting actress in The Danish Girl looked stunning in a custom Louis Vuitton gown which had been in the making for a few months. The billowing dress with a bubble/mushroom hem in a dusty yellow and adorned with beads fitted her beautifully.
Margot Robbie looked very much like a 40’s movie starlet in her gold shimmery dress by Tom Ford. It was fitting for her to come to the Oscars dressed up like the award itself but rather than looking cheap, this look actually worked so well. You cannot expect anything else but glamorous from Tom Ford. The clutch by The Row is so covetable with the extremely long tassel. We need that on the high street pronto!
Cate Blanchett gave us princess fairy dreams in her sea foam green Armani Prive dress. Although it is verging on costume, it is a show stopper and is bound to make all the best dressed lists. She went on to present the award for Best Costume Design in that dress.
Lady Gaga had everyone green with jumpsuit envy in this pure white look by Brandon Maxwell. It was impeccably tailored but the voluminous section at the bottom of the dress graduated it to the perfect Oscar dress.
And we will not forget the men.
Eddie Redmayne who was nominated for Best Actor in The Danish Girl looked great in a black Alexander McQueen velvet tux.
And Common seemed to be the only man dressed in a dapper white look.
