Make a resolution that will make a difference

It is almost time for ‘New Year new me’ mantra - people eager to make changes hoping to positively kick start the next chapter. The most popular changes usually involve starting a health kick, giving up chocolate, cutting down on sweets or reducing intake of carbs.

Far too often the change that could make the biggest impact is ignored. Giving up animal products comes with endless benefits. Going vegetarian is already a popular adjustment many are willing to make, if you are considering this already you should certainly think about also removing eggs and dairy from your diet. If you really wish to stay clear of the meat industry, not funding it would be a logical choice.

The health benefits of a vegan diet are numerous, including increased energy, decreased blood pressure, lower BMIs and migraine relief. Following a vegan diet has been shown to prevent a number of ailments, such as cardiovascular diseases and type two diabetes.

Going vegan is also kind to your budget. Vegan foods are no longer expensive and hard to find, more likely than not your local supermarket will have an ample ‘free from’ section, which will work out cheaper than buying overpriced ready meals or meat. It is a wonderful way to try new foods and expand your palate.

Furthermore making the choice to abstain from animal products, specifically meat, has a positive impact on the planet. Meat – to put it simply - is not green. It is wasteful, causing enormous amounts of pollution, it is one of the principal causes of climate change.

Nonetheless, aside from the benefits a vegan diet has from you and the planet, the most important impact is on the animals themselves. No animal needs to suffer for your plate. Preventing the exportation of animals is one of the key reasons for choosing vegan. There is no time like a new year to inspire healthy resolutions.

Go vegan in 2016.
