Ikeas futuristic table teaches how to cook
Furniture giant Ikea are always bursting with new ideas, and fantastic ways to make a house a home, but they have now emerged with a new idea which makes it official that we are now living in the future.
During this year’s Milan Design Week, Ikea were showing their Concept Kitchen 2025 which includes the incredible futuristic product titled ‘A Table For Living’ which uses a projector suspended above the tables which projects onto the tables surface suggestions for recipes based on the ingredients you have.
This incredible smart table will also weigh the ingredients as well as teach you how to cut them. The tables also features a built in hob, which is activated by simply placing a saucepan on the table. Ikea have said the table has multiple uses as a preparation surface, hob, dining table, work bench, or children’s play area. Ikea describe A Table For Living as “Casual Technology” which are “tools that give us control and guidance when we need it, but are otherwise hidden – a surface simplicity that minimises distractions and allows for mindful engagement with food”.
Concept Kitchen 2025 also features cooling containers to keep food fresher for longer and recycling system that will automatically separate materials. While coming up with these concepts Ikea worked alongside design company IDEO, and students from the School of Industrial Design at Ingvar Kamprad Design Centre at Lund University in Sweden and Industrial Design department at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.
Ideas from this group include a product titled Hannah which is an interactive mirror that can teach children how food is used by the human body, as well as a hi-tech soft toy called Tom that encourages children to learn about what they eat.
Unfortunately none of these products are available for purchase just yet as they are just concepts, but hopefully it isn’t too long until we can see these in our homes, taking another step into our future and a better way of living.
