Today it has been confirmed that the world has lost one of its most important icons of all time. Last night, David Bowie sadly passed away at he age of 69 after losing his battle with cancer.
His son, film director Duncan Jones confirmed the news issuing a statement on his social media account. It reads: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”

This tragic news will affect a whole generation of music lovers who saw David Bowie as a pioneer of popular culture, influencing fashion and art in the past, present and on through the future. Bowie constantly reinvented himself and pushed boundaries, taking us to worlds few had dreamed of. His early alter-ego Ziggy Stardust changed the face of rock at the time, creating a new cult and appreciation of music.
Bowie achieved greatness – a young man born in Brixton would go on to conquer the world and be loved by all. There is no mistaking the gravity of this loss to the world, but it should and will never be forgotten what David Bowie has done ti inspire the inhabitants of this planet.
