Singer Kesha loses legal battle with Sony
Distraught artist sobs after being denied release from contract.
The ‘We R Who We R’ performer Kesha broke down into tears on Friday as she lost her court case due to a Manhattan Supreme Judge’s ruling.
Here is a video of her arriving to the court house as reporters, cameras, and supporters gathered around her:
The case regarded Kesha wanting to be released from her six-record deal with Sony records and working with producer Lukasz Gottwalk aka Dr.Luke who allegedly raped her in 2006. She claims that when she was only eighteen, he drugged and sexually abused her.
Even though Kesha must stay in her contract with Sony, the company agreed to allow her the opportunity to work with other producers. Kesha’s legal team nor her are happy with this decision because she fears that the label won’t promote her music as competitively if she doesn’t work with Dr. Luke. She accuses Sony for enabling harsh working environments and sexual abuse.
Her supporters who she calls animals cried with her as she made her way through the crowd as security escorted the singer to her vehicle.
Fans and fellow celebrities even went to Twitter to express their support with comments such as:
The thing about #FreeKesha is that she isn’t even asking that her attacker goes to jail. She is asking not to work with him.

What kind of world do we live in where social media gets it right and has more sense than the court system #FreeKesha — Ricky Dillon (@RickyPDillon) February 19, 2016
With her obligations still in tact with Sony Records, we can only hope that an agreement can be constructed that helps Kesha through this troubling time.
