Technology Today: How close was Back To The Future II in reality?

Today is Back To The Future Day! A day where we can reflect on everything great about the 80s action adventure classic that hit a nerve with everyone who had ever set eyes on it. You show me a person who doesn’t like Back To The Future after watching the original and the two sequels and I will eat my laptop live on a vlog on YouTube.

The reason that this day October 21st 2015 has been crowned Back To The Future Day is due to the fact that is was the day Marty McFly travelled to in the future from 1989 in the sequel Back To The Future II. In it were were some quirky depictions of the (then) distant future. But how much of the sci-fi blockbuster was predicted correctly?

The Hoverboard - Well almost. We got those Segway’s we just haven’t worked out how to fly them.

However there is this….

The DeLorean - There still isn’t a vehicle fitted with a flux capacitor that can take us the the future and past. However, perhaps it has already been created in the past and has yet to show itself. Or perhaps it will be made in future and will only appear in parallel dimension of 2015 that will mean all of our lives have changed because the rules of time travel have been disturbed. I don’t know but I fear there are too many plot holes in my theory.

The Nike Air Mag power laced hi-tops - Well not quite yet but rumours are they may be available to buy end of this year or beginning of next. I for one would buy a pair in an instant, providing I didn’t have to take up a mortgage to wear them.

The Flying Car - Err not even close, but to be fair having a licence for the road is one thing, imagine needing one for the sky…

That’s not to say people aren’t trying to create some kind of flying car

That Holomax Jaws ad - Yeah this is bang on. Hollywood has been trying to plug the 3D experience for a long time now, even if it is usually a bit disappointing.
