Is the Star Wars Universe coming to Netflix?

by -

Disney and Netflix officials are rumoured to be in talks to make three TV series set in the Star Wars universe.

It’s entirely possible that everything I am about to discus will never happen and this article will just be a hopeful pipe dream but it looks like Disney may be in talks with Netflix to make three Star Wars TV series. After the amazing success Netflix have had with the Daredevil series it seems quite possible that Disney might want to share more with the streaming service. If the deal goes through it looks like the Star Wars Universe could be following it’s Marvel brother in creating a cohesive TV and film universe, as we have already seen with plans for spin-off movies. Could this be the real beginning of a new Star Wars Extended Universe?

Maybe. The sources I have researched for this article all seem a little vague, the only thing that stands out is that everyone seems to have been told there will be three series. There’s also the question of why aren’t Disney putting together a Star Wars series together of their own for ABC or one of their other numerous channels. This would make sense as they have done the same with Agents of Shield and Agent Carter and it would give them a lot more revenue from the project. The only reason they might consider otherwise would be if the proposed series wouldn’t be suitable for their network, as with the Daredevil series.

This gets to the real meat of the matter, what series could Disney and Netflix be discussing? The series are probably going to be something a little more violent but I would also imagine it probably won’t have the budget or scope of the films. I have a lot of theories but I have managed to narrow them down to three. The easiest guess is that there will be a Boba Fett or general bounty hunter series, one of my other theories was that all three series could just be looking at bounty hunters but I think at least one series is a safe bet. Boba Fett has always been a Star Wars fan favourite and it would take very little to make a good story, the entire series could simply be about him tracking down one bounty. If the deal goes through this could be quite likely as there has been little other news on the Boba Fett front and a lot of speculation.

There needs to be a Jedi series, my bet would go on an Obi-Wan series looking at his time on the planet of Tatooine between episodes three and four. In this time the force is meant to be a lot weaker so it would make a lot of sense for Kenobi to only use his abilities on rare occasions. I think it could be quite interesting to see the character on the run from imperial forces and helping protect Luke from the shadows as he grows up. Then there’s my final choice, it only seems fitting that if we have a bounty hunter and a Jedi there should be a soldier, there has always been a lack of focus on soldiers in the Star Wars Universe and I really want that to change. I want a series called Stormtrooper. Look at this picture.

Now imagine a series where the Empire recruits a single Stormtrooper to be trained as an elite combat expert wearing armour similar to that. The Trooper is tasked with the annihilation of rebel strongholds, maybe even the old bases on Hoth or Yavin. The series could be about him assembling a strike team then going against the rebels. It would be great to see a Stormtrooper as a hero and look at their perspective on the Star Wars Universe. We could even have an appearance from one of the Star Wars characters that haven’t aged like Chewbacca. In fact the season finale could be Chewbacca and the Stormtrooper fighting to the death while Hell’s Kitchen…um..I mean…Hoth goes up in flames.
