Sea level rise and global warming
Global warming is the increase in the Earth’s surface temperature due to the greenhouse gas effects. This is the type of greenhouse effect. The impacts of global warming is associated with the rising seas. The mechanism that cause sea level to increase is associated with the shrink of land ice and mountain glaciers. The rise of sea level defines the salt water intrudes into groundwater drinking supplies.
Antarctic sea levels increases faster than the global average. Melting ice glaciers are releasing 385 billion tons of water each year. This involve freshwater to the marine environment and it is possible to increase the levels of the sea. Freshwater is less dense than salt water and ships measured decreasing levels on water. Snowfall is the major challenge that increases snow pack in Antarctic areas.
Sea level of Earth history has been viewed between +2.6 mm and +2.9 mm. It has increased over years. It influenced human populations in coastal areas and natural environments. Sea level is expected to regular for centuries. Sea level increased that included geological observations. There are 330 million cubic miles of water in the world oceans and 97% of water is available on the planet. The level of the ocean around the Earth are directly associated with the water in the oceans.
The last glacial maximum is 22000 ~ yr BP and MIS is 120000 yr BP.
The factors of sea level rise and global warming includes:
Human activities: Human activities such as coal burning and cutting down trees have increased the atmospheric pressure to warm the temperature.
Deforestation: It clears the earth’s forest on a massive amount. Rain forests completely destroys and global warming is the major cause for the same. It has negative effects in the environment.
Co2 emissions: With the emission of greenhouse gases, global warming is caused. The emission of CO2 increased within 50 years and increasing almost 3% every year.
Ocean circulations: Ocean circulation is known as feedback that occurs from orbital forcing. It is called for internal forcing mechanism.
Plate tectonics + volcanism: This theory is called well when there is a division of Earth’s shell. This acts hard and rigid compared to the Earth mantle.
Ice melting: Melting glaciers contribute to increase in the sea level. It increases the coastal flooding and major cities faces huge problems such as Shanghai etc.
Meteor falls: The big problem is meteor falls due to global warming.
Astronomical causes: Ice core and deep sea cores are the best record of changes in global temperature and the content of CO2 of the atmosphere goes back.
Solar energy: Solar energy is the best way to reduce the fossil fuels and its dependency. It is important to parameterize the effects of atmospheric models. Solar panels are good both globally and produces renewable energy. It also constitutes the threats of human.
There are different impacts of sea level rise which are really very bad. With the increase of the global temperature, the glacier melts that expands the ocean. Different factors causes sea level all over the world such as:
Loss of islands: Small islands are vulnerable with the increase of sea level rise. Islands are the major hotspot of biodiversity and sea level rise causes habitat loss with different consequences. Rising sea level has impacted the whole nation.
Loss of low lying areas: Sea level rise impacts on low lying areas that causes flooding and erosion. It also result the loss of habitats.
Loss of biodiversity: Large amount of ecosystems were at risk that lead to the loss of biodiversity and habitat loss. There were huge threats with the level of sea level rise.
Decrease of food production: More saltwater has changed the chemistry of the coast soil. Plants were sensitive for food production and sea rise were the major factor that influence the plant to disappear. With the salt water, tree even died. They won’t be able to survive due to flooding by seawater. Animals also were died due to salt water. This reduced the production of food.
Population migration: Different forms of wildlife make their home on the beach. With the increase of the ocean, animals and sea birds suffer. The habitats get damaged by flooding and the surrounding changes that does not survive in the environment.
Flooding’s: Flooding is the major cause of rising sea levels. There are plenty of effects as it contaminates the drinking water and interferes with farming. This also changes the coastal plant life.
Good source of information on Global warming. Nice presentation.
