Roseberg goes poll for Russian Grand Prix

by -

The qualifying for this year’s Russian Grand Prix threw up little surprises as Mercedes locked out the front row for the 11th time this season. That was never really in doubt as Mercedes has had the fastest car all year round. The only question that needed answering was who would take poll, current championship leader Lewis Hamilton or team mate and title challenger Nico Rosberg.

Well, Rosberg was able to get the upper hand over his rival for the second grand prix in a row, clocking in the fastest lap at 1:37.113 - the fastest ever seen on the Sochi track. Q3 started off brightly as both Mercedes cars we set to go to the wire. Rosberg took the first lap but Hamilton made a mistake on his second lap at turn 13 - a turn that saw Kimi Raikkonen also make a mistake in Q3.

Ferrari failed to make the top three as Valtteri Bottas took that position for Williams on his final run, pushing Sebastian Vettel into fourth position.

Lewis Hamilton seemed subdued, knowing that he has taken 7 wins from 11 pole starts this season. He did allude to the fact that finishing P2 wasn’t such a bad thing for this track as seen last year.
