The Met Gala: Top 15 best dresses ever
As the Met Gala approaches, take a look back at the best dressed over the years.
It’s almost time for the Met Gala - arguably one of the most hotly anticipated fashion events of the year, in which celebrities, fashion designers and other famous faces, up their style stakes and wow on the red carpet at the formal event.
The Met Gala brings back old shool Hollywood glamour, and the outfits are always show stopping (even the bad ones) and with only a day to go before the event, I’m taking a look back at the most memorable outfits of all time.
1. Sarah Jessica Parker - 2013
Sarah is one of the most fashionable women in the world, and thousands of women fell in love with her style back in her ‘Sex and the City’ days. But Sarah’s 2013 Met Gala dress was far from anything Carrie Bradshaw would wear, Sarah opted for a wild and punk-esque Giles Deacon dress, with a pair of thigh high velvet boots and a gold head piece (that kinda resembles a crown?).
2. Gisele Bundchen - 2011
Gisele was a scarlet vision in this Alexander McQueen gown. The slim fitting style skimmed her model worthy body.
3. Doutzen Kroes - 2010
Long before Cinderella was brought to life by Lily James, Dutch Vicroria Secret model Doutzen, attended the ball in true princess fashion wearing this baby blue, full skirted gown by Zac Posen.
4. Camilla Belle - 2007
The American actress who has always had incredible style, chose this baby blue Grecian style dress by Jean Paul Gaultier, it included a beautiful gold detailing on the chest and even a cape!
5. Jackie Onassis - 1979
One of the most iconic women in history and fashion, Jackie O attended the 1979 Met Gala in her favourite designer Valentino. The dress was satin, strapless and a spiral of ruffles.
6. Karolina Kurkova - 2014
The Victoria Secret model was the definition of show stopping in this larger than life Marchesa gown, topped off with a diamond necklace and cocktail ring.
7. Dakota Johnson - 2014
Dakota was attended her first Met Gala after winning the role of Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey. She wore a simple full silk skirted navy dress, with a sequin embellished too and a pair of satin gloves. The dress was custom made by Jason Wu, who was also her date for the evening.
8. Blake Lively - 2014
Blake is always on the best dressed lists, but no one could have specked the pure Hollywood glamour she would bring to the Met Gala last year. Blake wore a champagne coloured shimmering, low cut gown, with a long train and cape, custom made for Blake by Gucci.
9. Dita Von Teese - 2014
Known for her old school 1950’s fashion, Dita stayed true to her style and wore this cream and red, tight fitting fishtail gown, created by Zac Posen.
10. Sophia Vergara - 2012
The Modern Family star wore a pastel grey strapless peplum dress, with beautiful silver detailing, made by Marchesa.
11. Scarlett Johansson - 2012
Scarlett stunned in a nude and gold embellished Dolce and Gabana off the shoulder, fishtail gown, the dress was trimmed with beads and diamonds.
12. Kendall Jenner - 2014
The Kardashians haven’t had great success with formal event fashion, anyone remember Kim’s tragic floral dress at the 2013 Met Gala? The dress now dubbed ‘couch dress? Fortunately Kendall’s time in the modelling industry has rubbed off on her and she wowed in a silk champagne coloured fishtail gown which was created by Topshop and finished off with a beautiful diamond necklace.
13. Carey Mulligan - 2012
The British actress wore a gold and silver metallic, fish scale style dress, custom made for Carey by Prada.
14. Beyoncé - 2011
It was hard to choose which Beyoncé look to choose, the megastar has worn impressive gown to every Met Gala she has attended, but I went with the 2011 Emilio Pucci dress. The black and gold fishtail dress emphasised the singer’s famous curves and made women around the world ask the question “How the hell can you walk in a dress that tight?!”
15. Rihanna - 2014
Rihanna broke away from the classic Hollywood look and interviewed it with her bad girl image to create this unforgettable look. Rihanna chose a white backless top and matching skirt by Stella McCartney, showing us how to bring edge to a formal occasion.
Who will have the best looks at this years Met Gala?
