The Godfather actor dies at 94
Hollywood lost another great actor in Abe Vigoda
Iconic film and television actor Abe Vigoda died Tuesday morning in Woodland Park, New Jersey. His daughter Carol Vigoda Fuchs told reporters that he had died in his sleep. Four days prior Vigoda’s nephew reported that the actor was dying due to having stopped taking his medication.
It seems as if the media always had a target on the back of this star. He was pronounced as dead twice before his actual demise. In 1982 People magazine wrongly reported that Vigoda had died when in fact he was working in a stage play in Canada. The mistake was made again in 1987 when a news reporter mentioned him as “the late” Abe Vigoda.
Abe Vigoda’s fifty year career started in Broadway productions such as Marat/Sade and The Man in the Glass Booth. His appearance quickly became noticeable with his tall frame and elongated face. The actor’s most famous roles were Salvatore Tessio in the award-winning American crime film The Godfather and as Sgt. Phil Fish on the television series Barney Miller. He has played in over 65 works in film and television and has been nominated for a prime time Emmy award three years in a row.
R.I.P to another legend of Old Hollywood.
