Autumn/Winter fashion trends for women in 3 steps

Autumn/Winter fashion trends for women in 3 steps

If you are waiting for chic, smart and casual for your wardrobe, then stop. Here comes the colour, the chaos, the maximalism! Get ready for the attention-grabbing style for this season.

Here, in England, summer is beginning to look like a distance memory, so it’s time to get ready for the next season. Analysing collections from New York, London, Milan, and Paris we realize that fashion is indeed far away from the game of playing it safe. It’s a surprise show.

So, this fall, the 80s are back on track, together with a rainbow of a bright and powerful style, splashy prints, and exaggerated shapes. Cavalli designer Peter Dundas states that inspiration comes from “clothes that make a woman feel beautiful and desirable. Clothes that a woman wants to put on and a man wants to take off”.

Ladies, if you want to know what wear, I will make it a bit easier then. Take the 3 steps:

1. Think out of the box

You can find exceptional pieces with a ‘breaking the rules’ kind of sensibility, create individuality, and a rebel style. The crazier the better - it’s what stimulates and keeps people engaged nowadays. However, if your wardrobe is still in the ancient times of minimalism, take it easy or it would become a total shock. Start with small details, which will keep you comfortable.

2. Check the trends

For this fall, designers decided to get ideas from interiors. That’s right, now is the time to take stock of the fabrics and patterns in your living room, but they better be chic ones. Long, warm and fuzzy coats are in, but unless you’re six feet tall (which I definitely am not), you better think about some heels to pull of the look. A little ball of fur will do more than keep you warm this season - there were a lot of interesting furs on the catwalk, from pompons at Celine (and cuffs, oh they went XXL here) to a new creative fur vision by Dior.

Main deal: The pleats, some velvet touch, vivid, graphic patterns and some patchwork make sure it’s not all about the 80’s… or is it? Besides playing with colours, go red, which is the stand-out colour trend. Of course, for no means leave behind the classic white blouse or the ever-flattering, black. You need to have some simplicic touch just so you don’t overload on crazy. Michael Kors and Chanel will agree.

Moreover, suits! Make it professional. The list goes on: loads of jewellery, big belts, capes. High lines, this means high necks are here. Oversized and asymmetric designs are top class and slip dresses (important warning: they are using DOT’s, this means Dress-over-trousers – very 90’s) are all accepted.

Footwear, oh that goes along with the wildness of the season, we’re talking furry boots, crystal-covered heel-less heels, pink pompons on silver sandals, sexy knee-high black lace-up boots and also second-skin boots.

If you are looking for specific styles instead of details, I can give you some clues: Eighties, eighties, eighties! And I mean a total makeover: colours to metallic. The debutante: get elegant. Glam geek, basically dress like Wes Anderson. You have the right to be nerd and look classy, for this season. Gothic Romance: laces and high ruffled necklines, dark lips and drama hair, all very Alexander McQueen. Think Neo-Victorian: high-neck ruffled collar or the melancholy elegance of black lace. Or try an Eastern influence, Chinese touch is very in this period. Finally, why not try what they call The Clash - if you don’t know with which style to start, go with all at once (don’t overreact).

3. Don’t be afraid to take a risk!

From baby steps for the beginners, to walking on the moon giant steps for experts, it’s time to get prepared. Try a new style, strengthen the old one. Just enjoy what the next season has to offer. Make yourself feel good, get all Shania Twain, belt out “Man I feel Like a Woman”, the fall is coming.
