League of Legends Origin Stories

There are more than 100 champions in League of Legends (LoL) and each of them are true individuals. The betrayed peacekeeper, the trophy hunter or the scrappy survivor, all can be found in the League.

Rengar: This consummate hunter found a natural home in Summoners Rift. Avidly seeking bigger and more dangerous prey, this champion takes special pride in the victims he has slain. The walls of his den strain under the weight of his trophies: the horns, claws and talons of the most deadly creatures of his country. A single spot remains free and empty, but Rengar vows to fill it. Rengar’s excellence in hunting had an unforeseen side effect. Boredom. Growing tired of easy game this proud predator felt empty. That is, until he encountered a nightmarish creature, a destroyer of all who crossed its path. Eager for a real challenge the hunter rushed to face his adversary, the battle was brutal. Rengar lost and eye and was forced to retreat. It is for that monsters head that Rengar keeps a vacant spot on his wall. Despite his crippling injuries, the encounter refreshed Rengar’s spirit. The prospect of hunting game of this calibre drove him to compete in the League.

Miss Fortune: Bilgewater’s top female assassin, Miss Fortune is easily recognisable by her custom twin pistols. The streets of Bilgewater march to the beat of her weapons, and the crash of the bodies that fall in her wake. It was not always this way for Miss Fortune. Once upon a time, little more than adoration for her mother filled her heart. She was known as Sarah then, and was never happier than helping her mother, the famous gunsmith. One day, a pirate visited the workshop demanding a pair of pistols the likes of which had never been seen before. When the pirate, Gangplank, returned for the guns the brutish thug that stood in her presence appalled Sarah’s mother. The pirate gunned Sarah’s mother down before turning on Sarah’s father, then Sarah herself. Gangplank then burned Sarah’s house down, if those guns were too good for him, they were too good for anyone. This was the fiery end to Sarah, but the beginning of Miss Fortune. Learning the intricacies of her mothers trade she quickly learned to reassemble the ornate pistols and set to work. With every bounty, Miss Fortune edged closer to her number one priority, Gangplank. Finally deposing her sworn enemy, Miss Fortune now faces a different challenge: filling the power vacuum left in his wake… and picking up some bounties in Summoners Rift on the side.

Graves and Twisted Fate: For the origins story of these two to be told correctly, they must come as a pair. Graves and Twisted Fate found kindred spirits in one another. Two of the best con men in the business, phenomenally successful in heists thanks to the pair’s unique skills. One heist proved to be too much however and the apparent betrayal of Twisted Fate left Graves in prison. Years passed and Graves plotted his revenge. The day came and the showdown between these two former friends raged on. After the near destruction of these two at the hands of Gangplank, the arch nemesis of Miss Fortune, Graves and Twisted Fate set aside their differences. Twisted Fate had not in fact betrayed Graves as it had appeared. Details of the exact chain of events are hard to come by, but whatever words were exchanged between the two men was sufficient enough to bring the pair back together. They now try their luck in the ultimate competition, the League of Legends.

Ashe: The master archer. As a child the story of Avarosa, an ancient queen and unifier of warring tribes fascinated Ashe. When her mother was killed while leading the tribe in an ill-fated raid, Ashe was thrust into leadership. Not adhering to her tribes call for vengeance, Ashe channelled the spirit of Avarosa and pledged to bring peace to her land. Her assassination was attempted while on a routine hunt, but the cry of a great hawk alerted her to the danger. Running deep into uncharted territory she came across an ancient burial mound. The frost bow that lay within once belonged to her childhood hero and was her salvation. Armed with the bow and her ideals, Ashe now commands the largest tribe in the Freljord.

Gragas: The man mountain has a simple goal, to find the perfect pint. Amid the often dark stories from the League, Gragas comes as a welcome break from death and destruction. Truly gluttonous, it’s the love of good food and drink that drives the man, well that and a good dust up! Its not always disaster that’s left in his wake however. After venturing far into uncharted glacial wastes, Gragas discovered a shard of pure ice. Using it in the brewing of a new lager, the resulting beverage was like no other. The drinks properties were so great that it was the medium through which two tribes of the Freljord bonded. Coming together under Ashe, it was Gragas and his brew that saved the day. His quest to find the perfect pint continues.
