Tom Jones and homophobia

Tom Jones and homophobia

Is Tom homophobic or was it just his generation?

Tom Jones, for me I have always been a huge fan although it seems that matters are starting to come out the wood work. When Tom Jones first went to London and met his first gay man he almost moved back to Cardiff! Yes, you read that right, the smooth talking devil that most people these days will know from The Voice may have been a touch homophobic, hopefully not anymore though we hope.

While conducting an interview with The Big Issue, Tom decided to tell them that he was “paranoid about homosexuals”. Who knows maybe it just so happens that the part of Cardiff he was from or his age was something that got in the way, I mean times have changed a lot over the last few years haven’t they?  But one thing is for sure, next time Tom Jones does an interview, I do hope he is going to think about what he is talking about first, because this next quote just makes me cringe.

“Once I got over the shock of that, and realised it wasn’t true, most people were normal. Well, I shouldn’t put it like that. Homosexuals are normal, it’s not that they’re not normal. It’s just that they are what they are.”

I would like to think that everyone is normal but at the same time, their be no definition of normal. After all we are all unique and completely different, oh well let us hope these days Tom is a little more accepting and a little more understanding of matters. No Tom, that button isn’t for a quick escape, I think he might be feeling the consequences for what he has said for a while.
