Character promo shots from the new Sherlock special have been revealed!

The wait is nearly over for the new Victorian style Sherlock Christmas special, which will be aired on January 1st 2016 on BBC One and will also be showing in cinemas across the UK on the same day! But until then, we have these exciting new character promo shots to get us into the Sherlock spirit!

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride

The new images include shots of leading man Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes, Martin Freeman sporting a very impressive moustache as John Watson, the lovely Una Stubbs as Mrs Hudson, a very elegant looking Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan and the Abominable Bride herself!

Writers Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat have also revealed that the 90 minute Victorian special will be a kind of origin story and also a Gothic horror/ ghost tale, But that’s not the most exciting part. The official synopsis for the Abominable Bride has been revealed, and here it is…

“What if the world’s most famous consulting detective and his best friend lived in a Baker Street of steam trains, hansom cabs, top hats and frock-coats? Welcome to Sherlock in 1895!

“Some things, though, remain reassuringly the same. Friendship, adventure and especially, MURDER!

Why is Thomas Ricoletti a little surprised to see his wife dressed in her old wedding gown? Because, just a few hours before, she took her own life…

“Mrs Ricolettis ghost now appears to be prowling the streets with an unslakeable thirst for revenge. From fog-shrouded Limehouse to the bowels of a ruined church, Holmes, Watson and their friends must use all their cunning to combat an enemy seemingly from beyond the grave and the final, shocking truth about… The Abominable Bride!”

Well, I can certainly say that after reading that I am even more excited to see The Abominable Bride. Another interesting thing writer Steven Moffat revealed about the special during an interview, was that you will have to be able to speak Chinese to crack an old Sherlock reference! In a recent interview.

Moffat said: “It’s a new story. But If you know the original stories, you’ll see that it’s fashioned out of quite a few others. As ever with us, we’ve chosen several and there are loads of references. One of them you have to be able to speak Chinese to get.”

Hmm, Sounds interesting!

Sherlock Holmes: The Abominable Bride will be on BBC 1 at 9:00pm on January 1st 2016!
