The German is proving how invaluable he could be to Arsenal’s title challenge
Mesut Ozil has been a revelation so far for Arsenal this season, the German has also provided more assists than any other player in the premier league in 2015. He has surpassed Thierry Henry’s assist tally of 19 in the 2003 season and you can understand why as the German playmaker has been consistently providing goal scoring opportunities for his team mates.
Ozil helped Arsenal get over their disappointing defeat against Southampton by turning in a much improved performance against Bournemouth. The German assisted Gabriel from a corner who in turn opened the scoring and then the former completed the scoring. Ozil collected a superb flick from Giroud and he duly finished off the move with a simple finish that saw Arsenal leapfrog Leicester into first place.
The only thing that needs to be managed effectively is the amount of time Ozil has on the pitch, Arsene Wenger can ill afford to burn him out and join the list of current absentees that includes Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla. The gunners will suddenly find it much more difficult to create the opportunities that a player like Ozil can make if one of their star players has a stint on the medics table. Arsene Wenger has had plenty to say about his man’s star performances and believes that he is now a complete player.
“When he was injured for a long period he worked very hard physically,” he said of Ozil. “He is a complete athlete. I also believe he has grown in stature and takes responsibilities, leadership in the team and on that front he has improved tremendously and looks determined to lead the team compared to when he arrived.
“I think he plays in a position that suits him well. He plays in a style of football that suits him well.
“This season he was not stopped by injuries and I believe that he arrives at an age – 27 – that you think ‘it’s time for me to really be efficient in every single game, and I want to enjoy every single game.”
So there you have it, Wenger has complete faith in Ozil at the moment and the German international could well end up having a big say in who will be crowned premier league champions in May.
